ACT
The American College Test is offered five times per year. Students planning to enter a Louisiana state college or university are required to take the ACT for admission. The test is taken at a local test site of the student’s choice on a specified Saturday morning. The cost is $19.00 per student. College-bound students are advised to take the test in April or June of their junior year in order to receive scores within the time limits required by many academic scholarships.
SAT
The Scholastic Aptitude Test is required of students making application to select colleges outside Louisiana. It is recommended that the student directly contact the admissions office of the specific university selected in order to determine which college admission test is required. Students who wish to apply for scholarships in out-of-state programs should take the May or June test at the end of their junior year. The cost is approximately $25.00.
PLAN
The PLAN is designed to encourage and enable 10th grade students to make productive plans for the future based on their academic strengths and weaknesses. The test is given in late October or early November each year. A modest fee is charged each student.
GEE 21
In order for a student to graduate from a Louisiana public high school, the student must pass all five components of the Louisiana Educational Assessment program (LEAP) in addition to completing the 23 Carnegie units of study. The written composition, English/language arts, and mathematics components are administered to all students classified as tenth graders (5 credits at the beginning of the year) in April of their sophomore year. The science and social studies components are administered to all students classified as eleventh graders (11 credits at the beginning of the year), during April of their junior year. Students not attaining the minimum score on any section are
provided remediation and re-testing opportunities the following October. Seniors are provided special remediation in the spring to assist them in completing testing requirements.
iLeap
Through the iLeap, students are able to demonstrate what they understand about the subjects as well as their mastery of GLE's. The iLeap is referred to as an integrated Leap because Louisiana chose to combine a norm referenced test and criterion referenced test. The test is administered in the spring to all 9th grade students.
